ENEMY TERRITORY: QUAKE WARS is a first-person shooter that only provides a team-based multiplayer mode. The Windows (XP resp. Vista) version of the game was developed by the video game development company Splash Image and eventually published by Activision in Europe on September 28th, 2007. In Germany the game is approved for persons of no less than 16 years of age. Unfortunately the game could not meet the expectations of many journals reviewing computer games. E.g., the GameStar magazine stated in the May edition 06/2007 that the potential of the multiplayer shooter game ENEMY TERRITORY: QUAKE WARS is very good. But then in the October edition 11/2007 the game was initially rated with 79 out of 100 possible points.

After the release of the patch that updated the game to version 1.2 it was re-rated with 81 out of 100 possible points in the December edition 01/2008 praising the improved balance of the classes and the denser atmosphere. Moreover this edition put the statement that ENEMY TERRITORY: QUAKE WARS is the perfect multiplayer shooter for clans, whereas individual players were recommended to play other multiplayer shooter: The GameStar review primarily criticized that the game insufficiently supports individuals to play as a team. In December 2002 a big change affected my life. I installed the multiplayer demo of the computer game BATTLEFIELD 1942. Before this time I was only a fan of strategy games (e.g. EMPIRE EARTH published by SIERRA in fall 2001) but absolutely not of first person shooters. I remember that I started a session with the BATTLEFIELD 1942 multiplayer demo on a Saturday before midnight. The chances are it was the 21st December 2002. On the subsequent Sunday at 4 o'clock p.m., that is 16 hours later, only a crash of the demo could coerce me into taking a break. |
In December 2002 a big change affected my life: I read in the November edition 11/2002 of the GameStar magazine a compelling review of the first-person shooter BATTLEFIELD 1942. The review commended the shooter with the award "für besondere Multiplayer-Güte" (in English: for particular quality in multiplayer). Moreover the game was rated with 90 out of 100 possible points. Until then I was only a fan of strategy games (e.g. EMPIRE EARTH published by SIERRA ON-LINE in fall 2001) but absolutely not of first-person shooters. I thought to myself that the multiplayer demo of the computer game BATTLEFIELD 1942 could be a good load test for the new powerful computer I had assembled at that time. If I remember rightly, it was Saturday the 21st of December 2002 shortly before midnight, when I started my first gaming session with the BATTLEFIELD 1942 multiplayer demo. On the subsequent Sunday at 4 o'clock p.m., that is 16 hours later, only a crash of the demo could coerce me into taking a break. But bear in mind, that the duration of this gaming session was an exceptional event in my life normally determined by a certain discipline. Mainly three reasons were responsible for this duration:
